More Than a Ride

More Than a Ride

Built on respect, encouragement, and a shared commitment to the road.

Ride Together. Ride Respectfully. Ride for Kris.

Every year, the Kris Yip Memorial Fondo brings together cyclists of all ages, abilities, and experience levels to honour the life and legacy of Kris Yip.

Whether you're participating for the first time or returning for another year, you're part of something bigger than a cycling event. You're joining a community that values respect, encouragement, safety, and the simple joy of riding together.

Our routes travel through beautiful rural communities and open public roads. The way we ride reflects not only on ourselves, but on the cycling community as a whole and on the future of the Fondo.

This page isn't about rules. It's about the culture we're proud to build together.

We Ride with Respect

Respect begins with the people who make this event possible.

We share the road with local residents, commercial drivers, farmers, visitors, and fellow cyclists. We also rely on the dedication of volunteers, sponsors, municipalities, and community partners who help bring the Fondo to life each year.

A friendly wave. A patient attitude. A simple "thank you."

These small moments help ensure riders continue to be welcomed back year after year.

We Ride Predictably

Safe group riding isn't about riding fast. It's about riding in a way that others can anticipate.

Ride in a straight, predictable line.

Signal hazards when you see them.

Communicate with the riders around you.

Obey traffic signs and signals.

Make your intentions clear.

The more predictable we are, the safer everyone becomes.

The "Zipper" Rule

One of the best parts of the Fondo is riding with friends and meeting new people along the route.

When traffic approaches from behind, we work together to make passing as safe and courteous as possible.

  Car Back

A rider calls "car back."

  Single File

Everyone smoothly moves into a single-file line.

  Let the Vehicle Pass

Maintain a steady pace and predictable line while the vehicle passes.

    Regroup

Once traffic has cleared and it is safe to do so, riders can naturally regroup.

This simple habit improves safety, reduces frustration from motorists, and helps preserve the positive relationships that allow the Fondo to continue using these roads.

We Look Out for One Another

Not every rider is chasing a personal best.

Some are riding their first Fondo.

Some are challenging themselves after injury.

Some are simply out to enjoy a beautiful day on the bike.

Offer encouragement.

Share a smile.

Check in if someone appears to need help.

Celebrate every finish.

Cycling is at its best when everyone feels welcome.

We Represent Something Bigger Than Ourselves

Every participant is an ambassador for:

  • the Kris Yip Memorial Fondo
  • the cycling community
  • our sponsors and volunteers
  • the memory of Kris Yip

Every interaction matters.

The courtesy we show today helps ensure riders are welcomed back next year.

Thank You for Being Part of Our Community

The Kris Yip Memorial Fondo has never been about who crosses the finish line first.

It's about community.

It's about challenging ourselves.

It's about supporting one another.

And it's about remembering Kris in the best way we know how: by sharing the roads, the stories, and the ride.

Thank you for helping us build a cycling community that is safe, welcoming, respectful, and worthy of Kris's legacy.

Ride Together. Ride Respectfully. Ride for Kris.
